    On December 2, the "Rock & Pop 7" event took place at the El Galpón Theater, with the 2008 class of Sound Design Technicians handling the bands' sound system and audio. The following bands performed: Slave, Perro Negro, Trío López, Nightfall Symphony, Funkruters, and Chau Peralta.

    As part of the "Entrepreneurs in Network" series organized by the Center for Technological Entrepreneurship, a presentation of "Pro Internacional"—a company founded by Magdalena Rodríguez and Rosario Monteverde, graduates of the Bachelor’s programs in Graphic Design and Systems Engineering, respectively—took place on December 3 at ORT Pocitos. Both received the “Women Entrepreneurs of the Year” award from the international“Cartier Women’s Initiative”competition.

    The School of Business and Social Sciences has published Research Paper No. 53, "A Study on Crime in Montevideo: The Effects of the Prison Reform Act," authored by Daniel Bukstein, B.A., and Federico Montossi, an economic analyst, who are a graduate and a student in the Bachelor of Economics program, respectively.

    On December 3, the screening of the short fiction film "Besos en la boca" took place in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. The film was directed by Pablo Martínez Pessi, a graduate of the Bachelor’s program in Audiovisual Communication and a faculty member at the school. The short film was produced with funding received after winning first prize for his short film "Los aviones" in the "Corten: una por el arte" contest organized by Cerveza Patricia in 2008.

    On December 2, the launch of the book *Oficios del tiempo* by Prof. Andrés Alsina, a faculty member, and Carlos Contrera took place in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. Mauricio Almada, Leonardo Barizzoni, and Ana Solari spoke at the event. The book is a collection of essays combining text and photographs that explore trades and ways of life facing extinction in Uruguay.

    On December 16, the conference "Invoicing, Price Adjustments, and More in SP" was held in the ORT Pocitos Auditorium, presented by Prof. Jorge Duclosson, Executive Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nilensur.

    Professor Daniel Mazzone, a faculty member at the School of Communication and Design, gave a presentation on José Enrique Rodó’s book *Motivos de Proteo* at an event organized by the Central Executive Board of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event took place on December 17 in the Artigas Amphitheater at the Ministry.

    ORT University, in collaboration with AECID, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and the Red AGE Project, published the book *The Management of Compulsory Education Schools in Latin America*, edited by Dr. Joaquín Gairín, General Coordinator of the Red AGE Project.

    On December 21, an informational session for the Master’s in Technology Business Management was held at ORT Pocitos, led by the academic coordinator, Marcel Mordezki, M.Eng. During the session, he discussed the application process for ANII scholarships. Questions were answered and details about the program’s curriculum were provided.

    On December 22, the awards ceremony for the "9th CEMPREndimientos for Recycling Contest" was held at the ORT Centro Auditorium.  First prize went to the "Yo reciclo" project by Cecilia Campodónico, Cecilia Lombardi, and Paula Lombardi; the "Dual" project by Germán Canuti, a student in the Bachelor of Industrial Design program, received an Honorable Mention from the Jury; and "Click" by Santiago Maggioli and Alfonso Rosso, students in the Bachelor of Industrial Design program, received the People’s Choice Award. From December 21 to 23, the submitted and award-winning projects were exhibited at ORT Centro.

    In December, the annual award ceremonies recognizing teaching excellence were held in the various schools. At each ceremony, the dean reviewed the year’s achievements and introduced the award-winning faculty members from their respective schools.

    The architecture program has been accredited for the maximum period of six years under the Mercosur Academic Quality Accreditation Mechanism for University Programs (ARCU-SUR System), administered by the Mercosur Network of National Accreditation Agencies. The accreditation system aims to provide academic validation of university degrees.

    On December 15, the play "Al ritmo de la moda" (by Pino Subotnik) was performed at the El Galpón Theater by the ORT University theater workshop group. The play was directed by singer, composer, poet, actor, and theater director Tabaré Rivero.

    On December 1, the second annual graduation ceremony was held at the Solís Theater. A total of 149 graduates from all faculties attended. Speeches were given by the Rector, Dr. Jorge Grünberg, and the graduates: Alejandra Migues, B.A., from the School of Business and Social Sciences; Florencia Mutarelli, Arch., from the School of Architecture; Eleonor Wauquier, B.A., from the School of Communication and Design; and Ignacio Cativelli, Eng., from the School of Engineering. The deans presented awards for academic excellence.

    Professor Gustavo Rubinsztejn, Academic Coordinator of Marketing at the School of Business and Social Sciences, contributed the case study “Atípica” to the second edition of the book *Marketing Management: Strategic and Operational Market Management* by Jean-Jacques Lambin, Carlo Gallucci, and Carlos Sicurello, published in Mexico by McGraw-Hill.

    Virginia Silva, Academic Coordinator of Communication at the School of Communication and Design, spoke at the seminar “Challenges in Communication for Competitive Development and Innovation,” which took place on December 9 at the Radisson Hotel in Montevideo. Participants included faculty members and researchers from the Communication departments of the Catholic University, ORT University, and the University of the Republic, as well as communication companies that provide solutions for development initiatives.
