Dec. 28, 2012The article “A test platform for dependability analysis of SoCs exposed to EMI and radiation” by Juliano Benfica, Ph.D., Letícia Maria Bolzani Poehls, Ph.D., and Fabian Vargas, Ph.D., professors in the Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering at the School of Engineering of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul ( Porto Alegre, Brazil), Dr. José Lipovetzky, professor at the School of Engineering of the University of Buenos Aires; Dr. Ariel Lutenberg, Coordinator of the Embedded Systems Laboratory at the School of Engineering of the University of Buenos Aires; Eng. Edmundo Gatti, Delegate of the Electromagnetic Compatibility Group at the National Institute of Industrial Technology (Buenos Aires); and Fernando Hernández, a professor of telecommunications at the School of Engineering, was published in the journal “Journal of Electronic Testing: Theory and Applications.” The publication, edited by Springer Science+Business Media, was published in December 2012 (volume 28, issue 6).

Dec. 27, 2012On December 19, 2012, the Board of Directors of the ANII (National Agency for Research and Innovation) announced the results of the evaluation process for the 2012 call for applications for National Graduate Scholarships in Strategic Areas. Two faculty members were awarded master’s scholarships and one was awarded a doctoral scholarship.

Dec. 27, 2012Designers Diego Aguilar and Fernando Arcos, graduates of the Interior Design program, were honored for a commercial design project at the eighth annual “Noche del Interiorismo,” which took place on December 12, 2012, in the Flex Hall at Grupo Torres. This event, organized by the Association of Professional Decorators and Interior Designers (ADDIP), aims to present awards for the best completed project and to recognize professionals and institutions that stood out during the year.

Representing Plan Ceibal were A/P Magela Fuzatti, Digital Labs Coordinator; Prof. Ma. Noel Hernández, Deputy Coordinator; and Alejandro Crosa, Head of the Sensors Department.

Dec. 12, 2012XSeed IT Solutions, founded by Marcelo Blanco and Jesús Portillo—both graduates of the Systems Engineering program—graduated from the business incubator in 2009 as a final-year project, and today, engineers Blanco and Portillo continue to lead the company. In their early days as entrepreneurs, they were supported by the CIE (Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship), and upon graduation, they joined Ingenio, where they began their development and internationalization process as a company.

Dec. 12, 2012On December 7, 2012, the university welcomed a visit from an academic delegation from the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente (Colombia). The delegation consisted of Carlos Herrán, a professor in the School of Engineering at that university; Juan Carlos Aguilar and Edgar García, professors in the School of Economics and Business Administration; Ms. Isabel Cubillos, Coordinator of the Office of International Relations; and 15 students from both schools. The visit was organized by Dr. Laura Diaz-Arnesto, Coordinator of Academic Projects.

Dec. 12, 2012These startups, which were incubated and supported by the CIE (Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship), were selected as among the 15 most outstanding startups of 2012 in Uruguay in a contest organized by the El Observador website. Readers of the website had until December 20 to vote for the best startup.

Dec. 7, 2012On December 12, 2012, the Faculty of Engineering hosted a lecture titled “The 21st Century: The Importance of Science and Technology Education for a Nation’s Development,” delivered by Dr. Luis G. Kun, Senior Research Professor of National Security at the Information Resources Management College of the National Defense University (United States). The speaker focused on the transfer of knowledge across multiple fields and the importance of the convergence of technologies and sciences to rapidly bring about major changes, which in turn will create job opportunities in multidisciplinary teams. The event was organized by the School of Engineering and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
