    The Graduate School of the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences is offering scholarships to graduates of the pre-incubator at the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) and the Ingenio incubator to pursue the MBA and the Master’s in Technology Business Management (MGET). There are two 33% scholarships available, one for each program. The goal is to support two entrepreneurs in their business education, complementing their technical knowledge and specific experience to foster the growth of their companies.

    On March 5, 12, and 19, a new edition of the "Idea Generation" workshop was held, led by Federica Abella, Regional Director for Latin America at Balance Integration Corporation, and José Gordín, a professor in the Marketing Department of the School of Business and Social Sciences. The event was organized by the Ferrere Chair of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE). Workshops will begin in the interior of the country in April. The first one will take place on April 10 at 9 a.m. at the CEI - CTC Maldonado.

    On March 4, the panel discussion "Print vs. Online: The Future of Journalism Over the Next 10 Years" took place in the auditorium of the School of Communication and Design, moderated by the Academic Coordinator of Journalism, Leonardo Haberkorn. The panel included Martín Aguirre (Jr.) from the newspaper El País; Miguel Arregui from the newspaper El Observador; María Noel Domínguez from Montevideo Portal; and Mauricio Erramuspe from the website 180.

    The Italian organization Kantea, in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Labor, Health, and Social Policies, the Associazione Lauria, the Uruguayan Chamber of Construction, the Faculty of Architecture at ORT University, the Lucca School of Construction, the Siena School of Construction, the Lecce School of Construction, and the Taranto School of Construction, decided to promote the free specialization course “Tecnico per il Restauro Conservativo e Architettonico” (Advanced Technician in Architectural Conservation and Restoration). The course took place from March to July at the Faculty of Architecture. For this reason, Prof. Simone Lippi, Professor of Computer Science and technician for website management and computer maintenance at the Scuola Edile di Lucca, and Prof. Gianluca Granata (pictured), Italian language instructor and Medical Director and founding partner of the Omniavet Veterinary Clinic in Rome, traveled from Italy to teach courses from March 8 to 17.

    ORT began its journey in sports competitions in 1999. As Mario Matalonga, Coordinator of the Department of Social and Sports Activities, recalls, that year the institution began participating in women’s soccer and field hockey at the students’ initiative. In 2000, while still serving as Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Program in Systems, Matalonga joined the newly created University Sports Organizing Committee (CODU) as ORT’s delegate, which was the first sign that sports activities at the university were becoming more formalized.

    On March 23, the Faculty of Architecture hosted the lecture "The Interior of the Home," presented by architect and designer Angélica Campi, a multiple-time winner of Casa Foa, one of Argentina’s largest exhibitions of design, interior decoration, and furniture.

    The prototypes for the projects by Silvina Hipogrosso and Nicole Wyaux, students in the Bachelor of Industrial Design program, were selected for exhibition at the Salão Design Movelsul, Brazil, during the Movelsul trade show, Latin America’s largest design and business event with international reach, which took place at the Bento Gonçalvez exhibition center in Rio Grande do Sul from March 22 to 26.

    On March 24 and 25, the seminar "The Business of Design and the Design of Business: An Introduction to Management Skills Development for Designers" took place in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. The seminar was led by Fernando Del Vecchio, who holds a Ph.D. (candidate) in Business Administration and an MBA from the Universidad del CEMA in Argentina. The event was organized by the Ingenio incubator and the Emprender Program.

    The School of Management and Social Sciences has published Research Paper No. 54, "China's Rise as a Major Power: Some Regional Challenges," by Pablo Brum, a professor of comparative politics in the Bachelor's Program in International Studies.

    The School of Communication has upgraded its audiovisual facilities (TV studio, control rooms, and post-production suites) with the latest Sony High Definition system, keeping pace with trends in the audiovisual industry. The main goal is to provide students with a technological environment that allows them to combine theory with professional practice, preparing them to work at leading companies in the industry.

    Dr. Patricia Corbo, Academic Secretary of the School of Engineering, and Engineer Daniel Goldenberg, a faculty member at the School of Engineering, participated in the "Latin American Seminar-Workshop for the Identification of Technological Needs in Areas Related to Mechatronics and Their Linkage with Industry," which took place from March 3 to 5 in Mexico, as part of Phase 3 of an agreement between Mexico’s National Center for Teacher Training (CNAD), and JICA, the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

    On Thursday, March 4, the 2010 series of "Entrepreneurs in Network" kicked off in the Communication Auditorium, organized by the Ferrere Chair of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE). The lecture was given by Sebastián Haro, director of the company ContenidoWeb, and Rafael García, director of the Ingenio Incubator.

    The ORT University Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Rotary Club of Aguada, District 4970, joined forces to develop a sustainable proposal aimed at supporting low-income youth in their journey toward social inclusion. To that end, in June 2009, they submitted the proposal titled “Camino TICs” in response to the European Union’s call for proposals “Non-State Actors and Local Development Authorities DCI-NSAPVD/128506,” and it was selected in December of that year.

    The School of Architecture organized a series of events on interior design. The series, which took place at the school and was free to the public, consisted of two lectures, two workshops, and a panel discussion aimed at students and individuals interested in pursuing a career in interior design.
