Aug. 17, 2009The Institute of Education has published a new issue of "Educational Research Journal" (Vol. 2, No. 15, dated December 2008). Dr. Edith Litwin, Academic Coordinator of Education Sciences, is the editor of this peer-reviewed annual publication.

Aug. 12, 2009Carolina Fontana, a student in the Bachelor of Industrial Design program, and Paula Artasanchez, a student in the Bachelor of Graphic Design program, developed the Bicipunto project for the NGO Urubike—Center for Research and Promotion of Cycling in Uruguay. On August 28, the first Urubike Bicipunto was inaugurated at the El Faro station on Rambla and Bulevar Artigas.

Aug. 10, 2009On August 19, the lecture "International Financial Crises: Interpretation and Implications for Economic Theory and Policy" was held at the ORT Pocitos Auditorium. It was delivered by Dr. Guillermo Calvo, Professor of Economics, Public and International Affairs at Columbia University and former Chief Economist of the Inter-American Development Bank (2001–2006).

Aug. 10, 2009On August 12, the lecture "How to Turn an Idea into a Project" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. It was presented by digital and visual artist Manuel Cuchilla, animator the California Institute of the Arts ( CalArts).

Aug. 3, 2009On August 6, ORT Pocitos hosted the conference "Entrepreneurs in Network - Batovi Games Studio," led by Alejandro Minatta, Coordinator of the Emprender Program, and Fernando Sansberro (pictured), a graduate of the Bachelor of Systems program and Director of Batovi Games Studio. The event was organized by the Ferrere Chair at the university’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Aug. 3, 2009On August 12, the Auditorium of the School of Administration and Social Sciences hosted the presentation of the essay “The Republican Renewal: The New Uruguay and the Traditional Parties in the Face of Power Alternation” by Prof. Francisco Faig, who teaches the courses “Contemporary International System” and “Analysis of the International Situation” in the Bachelor’s Program in International Studies.

Aug. 3, 2009Five students were selected by the Canadian government to receive the Emerging Leaders in the Americas programme ELAP) scholarship. Mariana Losada, a bachelor’s student in International Studies, and Esther Carballo, a bachelor’s student in Economics, will spend a semester at York University’s Schulich School of Business; Santiago Lalanne and Juan José Riva, bachelor’s students in International Studies, and Jean Michel Cerf, a bachelor’s student in Communication, will spend a semester at Université Laval.

Aug. 3, 2009From July 30 to August 27, the “Digital Production and Post-Production Workshop” will be held, led by Prof. Gustavo Doorman, Director of the production company GSX Media. This is an intensive extracurricular course aimed at students in the School of Communication and Design, with the goal of providing training and hands-on practice in digital editing and compositing tools for the creation of bumpers, commercials, and music videos that require the use of 3D and/or 2D animation.
