    As part of the extracurricular activities for the Specialization Diploma in Real Estate Development, a networking breakfast titled “Real Estate Marketing 2.0” was held on August 30, 2012, at the School of Architecture. The event was led by Architect and Engineer Fernando Cos-Gayon López, Full Professor at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain) and President of Grupo Ágora, a leading firm in project management, architecture, and engineering, as well as project and construction management and the management and sale of real estate assets (desbanca.com), with operations in Spain, Argentina, and Uruguay. The speaker analyzed the principles of real estate development from a web-based perspective.

    It doesn't hold him back. Valentin Maury, a French student who spent a year on exchange in Uruguay, has low vision—a genetic condition that requires him to use a cane, but it doesn't hold him back. Between the second semester of 2011 and the first of 2012, he ran races up to 21 kilometers, went to parties, dated, went skydiving, followed Peñarol, and traveled to Ushuaia and Iguazú with his twin brother Aurélien, who also has low vision. Montevideo, he says, lacks the infrastructure that blind or visually impaired people need, but that is made up for by the generosity of the people.

    Smartway was founded in 2010 based on two final projects completed by electronics engineering students. Nicolás Cremona and Gonzalo Díaz began their thesis in March 2009 on the development of a vehicle diagnostic scanner using OBDII diagnostic protocols. Meanwhile, Damián Sandler, José García, and Gonzalo Petersen developed, as their thesis project at the same time, a remote monitoring system that collected data from the diagnostic scanner created by the Cremona-Díaz team and sent it to a server, enabling web-based visualization of the data.

El expositor analizó hasta qué punto se vinculan la crisis de Lehamn Brothers y la actual crisis del Euro. El moderador del evento fue el Ec. Isidoro Hodara, Catedrático de Comercio Internacional de la facultad. La actividad fue organizada por el Departamento de Estudios Internacionales.

    |The School of Communication and Design is announcing the call for entries for the sixth edition of “Re|Creación13,” an academic initiative developed by senior students in the Bachelor’s programs in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, and Multimedia Design. It is aimed at companies, entrepreneurs, and investors with ideas that could potentially be transformed into products or services, entities with communication needs, or organizations requiring graphic, industrial, fashion, and/or multimedia design projects. They will have the opportunity to participate in an academic initiative that yields professional-quality results. To date, 285 students and 147 companies have participated in the program.

    On August 2, 2012, ORT Centro hosted the lecture “Israel Start-Up Nation: A Southern Perspective on the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem of One of the Most Dynamic and Innovative Countries in the World Today.” It was presented by Assistant Professor Víctor Paulós, Academic Secretary of the School of Technology in the Faculty of Engineering; Enrique Montero, Academic Coordinator of the CTC Technological Institute (an educational center offering technical programs certified by the university) and Coordinator of the CIE (Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship) in Paysandú; and Assistant Professor Marcelo Duarte, National Vice President of JCI (Joint Commission International) Uruguay, a nonprofit organization present in more than 100 countries that works with young people, offering them opportunities for development and leadership. The talk was organized by the university’s CIE.
