    The paper “Improving performance of multiple-level cache systems,” authored by faculty members from the School of Engineering, was presented at the “ACM SIGCOMM Workshop on Fostering Latin-American Research in Data Communication Networks (LANCOMM 2016).” This peer-reviewed conference, organized by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Special Interest Group on Data Communication, took place from August 22 to 26, 2016, in Florianópolis. ACM published the paper in the Proceedings of the 2016 Workshop on Fostering Latin-American Research in Data Communication Networks.

    The book *La innovación pendiente: reflexiones (y provocaciones) sobre educación, tecnología y conocimiento* by Dr. Cristóbal Cobo, a doctoral thesis advisor in the Department of Education, was published in August 2016 by Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial and Editorial Sudamericana.

    A total of 69 new exchange students have been studying at the university for one semester since August 2016. They come from universities in Germany, Belgium, Brazil, China, Colombia, Spain, the United States, Finland, France, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. They are participating through student exchange agreements and special programs for international students. Meanwhile, 76 students from the university are participating in exchange programs starting in August at universities in Germany, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, South Korea, Spain, the United States, Finland, France, Italy, Portugal, and the United Kingdom.

    Faculty members from the School of Management and Social Sciences presented seven papers at the 31st Annual Economics Conference. This event, organized by the Central Bank of Uruguay, took place on August 18 and 19, 2016, in Montevideo. All of the papers were published in the proceedings of this peer-reviewed conference.

    On August 29, 2016, the university’s second annual commencement ceremony was held at the Solís Theater. A total of 115 graduates from various degree programs participated. Speeches were given by the rector, Dr. Jorge Grünberg, and a graduate from the School of Business and Social Sciences and the School of Communication and Design. The deans presented awards for academic excellence.

    An informational session on the Chevening/ANII (National Agency for Research and Innovation) Scholarships will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. at the Pocitos Campus (2633 España Blvd.). For the 2017–2018 academic year, these scholarships will be awarded to pursue a master’s degree in the United Kingdom in any field. They are intended for outstanding students and talented professionals of Uruguayan nationality with the potential to hold positions of leadership and influence.
