Sept. 29, 2010On September 22, the awards ceremony for the Undergraduate and Graduate Project Competition organized by the National Academy of Engineering took place. At the event, students Federico Armando, Matías Boix, Pablo Piriz, and Ignacio Tabo were recognized for their project "SmartLife: A Platform to Support Kitchen Activities," their final thesis for the Systems Engineering program. They shared the first prize in the computer science category with the project “Design and Execution of an Experiment with 5 Unit Verification Techniques,” presented by students from the University of the Republic. Among the criteria evaluated for the award was the relevance of the topic to the national interest. The event took place in the auditorium of the Ministry of Education and Culture in the presence of the Minister, Dr. Ricardo Ehrlich.

Sept. 20, 2010Universidad ORT Uruguay ranked among the top 500 universities in the world and among the top 10 in Latin America in the 2010 QS World University Rankings, published on September 15. The main criteria used to compile the rankings are academic peer reviews, employer evaluations, and published research. Of the more than 700 universities in Latin America, only 10 were ranked among the top 500 in the world. The top 10 universities are American or British. The University of Cambridge tops the list, followed by Harvard University.

In early 2010, he came to the conclusion that the camping industry needed to enter the digital age. After giving it some thought, he decided to look into the matter. It was then that the graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Administration approached several owners of these establishments and proposed creating a software tool that would allow them to offer their young customers the ability to reserve and pay for their spots online.

Since 1992, he has worked in various media outlets; he first worked in radio (Radio Litoral in Fray Bentos, the FM station in the resort town of Las Cañas, and El Espectador) and later in print media (Revista Tres, Posdata, and El Observador). Since 2005, he has worked for the weekly newspaper Brecha, Radio AM Libre, and Radio Uruguay, without neglecting his own publishing ventures.

On Wednesday, September 1, the lecture "Two Animation Students from ORT University on a Study Abroad Program at CalArts" took place in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. The talk was given by Florentina Pérez Ferrando and Sebastián Pérez Traverso, students in the Digital Animation Technician program who studied animation from January 16 to February 28 at CalArts (California Institute of the Arts) in Los Angeles, thanks to a collaboration program between that institution and ORT University.
