    The School of Management and Social Sciences published Research Paper No. 59, "Hugo Grotius: At the Origins of Modern International Thought," by Prof. Javier Bonilla Saus, Academic Coordinator of International Studies; Macarena del Campo, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Program in International Studies; and Jonathan Arriola, a student in that program.

    On October 15, Punta Carretas Shopping announced the six finalists for the fifth edition of the /a>. Noel Asís and Emilia Hernández, students in the Fashion Design program, and Laura Almeida, a graduate of the program, were three of the contest’s finalists. Each finalist will prepare a collection to present in March 2011 to a jury that will select the winner.

    "I'm going for a drive" is an expression associated with tranquility, enjoyment, pleasure, and relaxation. The "Tango" vehicle, designed by Pablo D'Angelo—a faculty member specializing in Transportation Design and instructor of the "Expressive Representation" course in the Industrial Design degree program—embodies these qualities.

    On October 19, Architect Juan Herreros participated in a project review session for the Architecture Project 6 course taught by Architect Alejandro Baptista, Professor of Design at the School of Architecture. Architect Herreros is Professor of Projects and Director of the Senior Project Studio at the Madrid School of Architecture and a visiting professor at Columbia University (New York).

    Kizanaro, a company founded as the final project of four graduates from the Bachelor’s program in Information Systems, was honored by the Inter-American Development Bank during the event known as Foromic, held from Wednesday, October 6, to Friday, October 8, and attended by 1,500 business leaders. The award they received, called the "Award for Excellence in Local Entrepreneurship," was granted for the development of the software used by the Uruguayan national soccer team at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

    Industrial designer Andrés Roppa, a professor in the Industrial Design program, won the Rhinoceros and Autoblog design contest for his "Red Leaf" concept, where he had the opportunity to showcase his skills with the 3D software Rhinoceros.

    On October 12, the lecture "Convergences and Divergences in the Current Media Landscape" was held in the Communication Auditorium, presented by Dr. José Luis Fernández, Professor of Media Semiotics I at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). The speaker discussed changes in the media, media development strategies, and the role of theory in the face of technological innovation.

    From October 6 to 21, the "Edward Johnston" exhibition took place at the ORT Centro Exhibition Space, co-organized by the Montevideo Typographic Society and ORT University, with support from the University of Sunderland, England, the Edward Johnston Foundation, and the Ditchling Museum. Johnston was born in 1872 in San José, Uruguay. He is a leading figure in the modern history of typography and a champion of the 20th-century revival of European calligraphy.

    The "Tango" Tricycle, developed by the Department of Industrial Design Pablo D’Angelo, a professor in the Industrial Design program, has been selected as the Best Project in its category for Uruguay and as one of the best entries to participate in the “II Ibero-American Design Biennial,” organized by the Madrid Designers Association, which opened on November 22 at the Matadero Design Center in Madrid, Spain. The exhibition will continue through February 2011.

    Prof. Gabriel Basaluzzo, Director of the Master’s in Finance and the Major in Financeprogram at the University of San Andrés (Argentina), will teach the “International Seminar on Market Risk” as part of the Master’s in Financial Management program from October 11 to November 16.

    Eduardo Hipogrosso, Dean of the School of Communication and Design, presided over the event, organized by the Uruguayan Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB Uruguay) and sponsored by ORT University. The event took place on October 13 at the Radisson Victoria Plaza Hotel. Hipogrosso opened the event.

    On October 7, an MBA gala dinner was held at Parque Arocena. Marcos Cristal served as the guest speaker, delivering a lecture titled "Happiness vs. Business?" and presenting his book *El Equilibrista: How to Balance Your Life and Work?*, which was recently published simultaneously in Argentina and Mexico by Editorial Grijalbo, part of the Random House Mondadori group.

    On October 4, the 4th Seminar on Furnishings began at the School of Architecture, as part of the curriculum for Studio 2 in the Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design. Guest lecturers include architect Roberto Moraes and designers Flavio Morán and Lourdes Bentancor. The seminar consists of a studio project and complementary lectures.

    On September 1 and 2, the “Emerging Architects” series kicked off at the School of Architecture; the series takes place on the first Wednesday and Thursday of every month. On these occasions, young architects from our community and the region showcase their recent work, their working methods, and their understanding of contemporary architecture. On Wednesday, September 1, architect Luciano Benites presented his work, and on September 2, the MBAD studio—comprising architects Mario Báez and Adrián Durán—will do the same.
