    The School of Architecture and the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI) organized the "Seminar on High-Performance Concrete" on November 12 and 13 at the ORT Pocitos Auditorium. The seminar was led by Alejandra Benítez, Engineer and Coordinator of INTI’s Concrete Technology Technical Unit in Argentina. The course was aimed at construction professionals and technicians interested in delving deeper into the characteristics and scope of high-performance concrete.

    On November 13, the roundtable discussion "Usability in Software Design in Uruguay" took place at the Centro Auditorium to mark World Usability Day. The event was jointly organized by the company Concreta and ORT University. The companies Artech, IdeaSoft, and Urudata participated in the event. The roundtable was moderated by Prof. Daniel Mordecki, director of Concreta and professor at the School of Communication and Design.

    ORT University signed a framework agreement for academic cooperation with the California Institute of the Arts ( CalArts) in Los Angeles, one of the most prestigious universities in the field of visual and performing arts. The academic, artistic, and cultural cooperation may include student exchanges, faculty exchanges, and joint research projects. The agreement was signed on November 3 at CalArts by Steven Lavine, President of CalArts, and Dr. Jorge Grünberg, Rector ORT University.

    On November 6, the lecture "Process Improvement in the Real World" was held in the Engineering School Auditorium, presented by Margaret Kulpa and Kent Johnson,Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technical Officer , respectively, of the international process consulting firm AgileDigm.

    As part of the Interior Design program’s extracurricular activities, the School of Architecture organized the Second Seminar on Interior Design, titled “The State-of-the-Art Office.” The event featured lectures, workshops, and a roundtable discussion. Both the workshops and the lectures were led by designers and architects of national and international renown. Additionally, from November 6 to 14, the works created during the seminar were exhibited in the central hall of the School of Architecture.

    José Luis Elizalde, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Program in Graphic Design, won an award in the “Ideas for Entrepreneurship” competition for his project “CIP—Virtual Cinema,” and Sebastián Haro, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Program in Journalism and Communication, for his project “ContenidoWeb.”

    Irma Fraile and Eugenia Martínez, sixth-semester students in the Bachelor of Industrial Design program, won second prize in the international "HI-COOKING Castey 2008" competition held in Spain and sponsored by Castey, a manufacturer of cast-iron pots and pans. The theme of the competition was the redesign of a grill. The students submitted three proposals, and the one selected was "Cuisson." The design process was carried out under the guidance and supervision of Industrial Designer Javier Terra, a faculty member of the program.

    On November 26, the Faculty of Architecture hosted the lecture "Recent Projects" by Argentine architect Gerardo Caballero, the professor in charge of the international graduate programs offered by Washington University in Barcelona and Buenos Aires.

    On November 25, the Faculty of Architecture hosted the event "Architects' Conversations: Points of Agreement and Disagreement." As part of this event, at 7 p.m., the lecture "Focus on a Professional Experience" was given by Architect Walter Graiño, Chair of Construction Technology and Full Professor of Construction and Site Management at the faculty, and at 8 p.m., the lecture "11:54 p.m." was given by Architects Alejandro Baptista Vedia and Alejandro Baptista Acerenza, project design instructors at the school. Finally, at 9 p.m., the speakers debated different perspectives on architecture, moderated by Argentine architect Gerardo Caballero, professor in charge of the International Graduate Programs offered by Washington University in Barcelona and Buenos Aires.

    On November 27, the lecture "SCRUM—An Agile Work Method Focused on Rapid Results That Businesses Need" was held in the Engineering School Auditorium, presented by Assistant Professor Gabriel Ledesma, a faculty member. The event was organized by the School of Technology.

    On November 25, the lecture "Entrepreneurial Leadership: People, the Primary Source of Inspiration" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Administration and Social Sciences. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Eugenia Bieto, Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at ESADE Business School in Spain, whose mission is to generate and disseminate knowledge about entrepreneurship. The event was organized by the faculty’s School of Graduate and Executive Studies as part of the 20th anniversary of the Center for Executive Education.

    On November 13, the Academic Coordinator of the Journalism Program, Prof. Leonardo Haberkorn, participated in a roundtable discussion to mark the launch of “Children and Adolescents in the Uruguayan Print Media: Media Monitoring—2007 Results Report,” a publication produced by UNICEF and El Abrojo. The event took place at the headquarters of the Uruguayan Press Association.

    ORT University signed an academic cooperation agreement with the University of Boyacá in Colombia, with the aim of supporting the development of activities of mutual interest, such as faculty and staff exchanges, student exchanges, and joint programs. The agreement was signed on November 17 by the President of the University of Boyacá, Prof. Rosita Cuervo Payeras, and the Rector ORT University, Dr. Jorge Grünberg.

    On November 18, two university graduation ceremonies were held at the Solís Theater. A total of 230 graduates from undergraduate and graduate programs across all faculties participated. Speakers included the President of ORT Uruguay, Dr. José Braun; the Rector ORT University, Dr. Jorge Grünberg; the Dean of the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences, Dr. Gaston Labadie; and graduates from the various faculties. The deans presented awards for academic excellence.

    On November 18, a lecture titled "Developing Entrepreneurial Behavior" was held in the Engineering School Auditorium, presented by Rafael García, an engineer and coordinator of the school’s Center for Technological Entrepreneurship.
  • Nov. 5, 2008
    The play "Gatomaquia," written by Prof. Laura Pouso, a faculty member at the School of Communication and Design, received the "Teatro del Mundo" award for best foreign production in Buenos Aires on November 27. This is the first time that the award, which has been presented for the past eleven years by the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), has been given to a Uruguayan production.

    Eduardo Hipogrosso, dean of the School of Communication and Design, and Graziella Blengio, academic secretary of the School of Architecture, served on the jury for the booth design competition held as part of the Montevideo Motor Show 2008, which took place at LATU on October 31.

    On November 5, the lecture "An Introduction to Europe" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Administration and Social Sciences. It was presented by Juan Víctor Monfort, Ambassador of the European Commission Delegation to Uruguay and Paraguay, and /a> (pdf), Director of the Eurocenter at the National Chamber of Commerce and Services of Uruguay. The event was organized by the faculty’s Department of International Studies through the European Studies Program.

    The Center for Technological Entrepreneurship (CET) at the School of Engineering invited participants to take part in its "Third Call for Ideas." Until November 28, teams comprising at least one student or graduate of ORT University who had a defined business idea could apply to the CET to receive the necessary support to turn their idea into a real product.
