April 30, 2014On April 2, 2014, the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences hosted the conference “Network Business Model: The Strategic Management of Business Relationships” as part of the Management and Business Lecture Series organized by the faculty’s School of Graduate and Executive Studies. The speakers were Dr. Sebastián García-Dastugue, a researcher in supply chain management, partnerships, and entrepreneurial families, and Dr. Luis Silva Domingo, Academic Coordinator of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. They presented tools for reviewing business strategies and a methodology for developing the ability to form and maintain mutually satisfying and lasting business relationships with customers and suppliers.

April 30, 2014Dr. Amir Hamed, Professor of Rhetoric and Persuasion in the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Communication, served as editor of the first issue of the magazine “Interruptor,” covering April–June 2014. This publication was selected through the Ministry of Education and Culture’s competitive grant program and has by has Uruguayan Postal Service.

Ricardo Kaufmann, associate professor of General Administration, was published in the proceedings of the "V Workshop in Operations Management and Technology (ACEDEDOT OMTech 2014)," which took place on April 3 and 4, 2014, in Pamplona, Spain, organized by the University of Navarra.

April 30, 2014On April 1, 2014, the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences hosted a lecture titled “Economics and Public Opinion: Foundations for the Transformation of Sovereignty,” presented by Dr. Felipe Vasconcelos, a researcher at the Observatory of Foreign Relations at the Autonomous University of Lisbon. The speaker analyzed the influence of public opinion on state sovereignty and the sovereign debt crises in European Union countries.

April 30, 2014Two projects involving graduates of the Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication received funding from the first 2014 call for proposals of the Montevideo Audiovisual Partner Program, administered by the Montevideo Film Commission of the Municipality of Montevideo. The results were announced on April 24, 2014.

April 30, 2014The Scratch MOOC for Teens (SM4T) course was selected on February 17, 2014, to participate in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS 2014) competition. The public could vote until April 18, 2014. The results will be announced during the "WSIS+10 High-Level Event 2014" in Geneva, Switzerland, on a date to be determined. SM4T is the country’s first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) focused on teaching programming to teenagers.

The visit was part of the technology transfer agreement signed between the CIE (Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship) and UTH Avanza.

The event was organized by Antel, CUTI (Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology), Greentizen, IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), LATU/Espacio Ciencia, MIEM (Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining)/DINATEL (National Directorate of Telecommunications and Audiovisual Communication Services), the Ceibal Plan, and Universidad ORT Uruguay.
