    On May 8, the jury announced the winning entry in the “Educational Content Contest for the Ceibal Plan,” organized by ANCAP and ORT University. The award went to the multidisciplinary team “2 D + 1,” whose creators are Homero Pérez Noble and Felipe Van Rompaey, under the guidance of Prof. Juan Pablo Croce.

    On May 27, the lecture "Digital and Interactive Art, Pratt University, New York" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design, presented by Prof. Peter Patchen, Chair of the Department of Digital Arts atPratt University.

    Dr. Gaston J. Labadie, Dean of the School of Management and Social Sciences, participated in the opening of the “Innovation Forum of the Americas” (FIA 2009), which took place on May 24 at the Radisson Victoria Plaza Hotel. On that occasion, he introduced the presentation given by Dr. Harry Yuklea, Director of the Asper Center for Entrepreneurship atthe Hebrew University of Jerusalem, who spoke on “Learning from Israeli Success in Innovative Entrepreneurship.”

    Architect Gastón Boero, Dean of the School of Architecture, was invited to serve on the panel at the conference “Accessibility in Uruguay. Montevideo and the New Municipal Regulations,” an event organized by the Uruguayan Institute of Technical Standards (UNIT), co-organized by the Secretariat for Social Management for Persons with Disabilities of the Municipality of Montevideo (IMM), declared of municipal interest by the IMM, and sponsored by the Society of Architects of Uruguay. The event, which was attended by national, municipal, and university officials, took place on May 28 in the ISO Hall at UNIT.

    The “Oruga” project by Irma Fraile, a student in the Bachelor of Industrial Design program, received an Honorable Mention in the Students – Furniture / New Projects category at the “Salão Design Casa Brasil 2009.” In addition, DI Maximiliano Izzi, the professor of Industrial Design 3 - Production Feasibility (the course in which the student developed her proposal), was invited to participate in the awards ceremony, where he will receive the Salão Design trophy as the supervising professor. The project consists of a folding wooden frame for one- and two-seater sofa beds.

    On May 27, the lecture “Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Onetti’s Birth” took place in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. The event was led by journalists Carlos María Domínguez and María Esther Gilio, authors of *Two Works for Understanding Onetti Beyond Myth and Criticism* (2009, Cal y Canto Publishing).

    The Israeli Community of Uruguay is hosting the photography exhibition "En comunidad" by photographer Leo Barizzoni, a professor at the School of Communication and Design. The opening took place on May 19 at the community's headquarters.

    On May 20, the lecture "IT Costs: A Timely Challenge," presented by Diego Passadore, took place in the Auditorium of the School of Engineering. The event was organized by Vincular, the university-industry liaison office, and the CIE (Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship) of the School of Engineering, in collaboration with the Uruguayan Association of Engineers.

    On May 18 and 19, the School of Communication hosted the “Comics Workshop: From Belgium and Portugal to Uruguay,” led by Xavier Lowenthal (Belgium) and Luis Henriques (Portugal). The event, organized with the support of Montevideo Comics, was aimed at students and graduates of the Digital Animation Technician program.

    On May 14, the School of Design hosted the opening of the exhibition "Iniciados 2009," which features a selection of the best works created by students in the Bachelor of Graphic Design program during the Photography Workshop held last February under the guidance of Prof. Raul Burguez. The exhibition features a study of a subject, object, or event captured in five photographic shots, chosen by the student under the guidance of the instructor.

    On May 13, the lecture "Design: The Current State of the Profession and Alternative Strategies" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. The lecture was presented by Roxana Garbarini, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the Industrial Design III Department at the School of Architecture, Design, and Urbanism of the University of Buenos Aires. The event was organized by the Academic Coordination of Industrial Design.

    On Monday, May 18, the lecture "Criteria for Renovating Existing Buildings: Case Studies" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Architecture. The lecture was presented by Architect Ramiro Chaer, a tenured professor of structural engineering at the school.

    On May 11, 13, 18, and 20, the Faculty of Communication and Design hosted the course " Online Solutions for the Meetings Industry: Events, Conferences, and Trade Shows," led by Marcelo Tannús, director of EdN - ICT Solutions, a company headquartered in Montevideo with offices in Argentina and Chile. The course was aimed at students and graduates of the Technical Program in Public Relations and Event Management, and the Program in Corporate Communication and Public Relations.

    The Department of Jewish Studies is hosting the exhibition "Stones with Life" by artist Dr. Isaac Satkin, which runs through May 22 in the main lobby of ORT Centro (1451 Cuareim). The exhibition, which opened on April 21, features an original selection of works in stone and wood. It is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

    The School of Engineering organized "Scratch Day - ORT Uruguay University," which took place on May 15. Scratch is a programming language that allows users to create animations and games and helps them become familiar with the basics of programming. Scratch Day is an event created by the Scratch team at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) with the aim of promoting this tool and sharing projects and experiences. It is held simultaneously in several countries.

    Prof. Dr. Marcos Farias Ferreira, a professor at the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the Technical University of Lisbon, served as a visiting professor from April 28 to May 6 for the course "Analysis of the International Situation" in the Bachelor's Program in International Studies, where he presented on the topic "The European Union's Foreign Policy and Its Neighborhoods." Additionally, on May 6, he delivered a lecture at the School of Management and Social Sciences titled “The Evolution of the European Union and the Changes Introduced by the Treaty of Lisbon.”
