July 30, 2009On July 30, the "5th LANPARTY Gathering" was launched at the Centro Auditorium by the Center for Technological Entrepreneurship (CET) of the School of Engineering. The event, which will feature games, tournaments, talks, and exhibitions, will take place this year in the LATU halls from September 11 to 13. The goal is to bring together the local gaming community and represent Uruguay at international events and competitions.

July 27, 2009Architect Gastón Boero, Dean of the School of Architecture; Architect Walter Graiño, Full Professor of Construction and Site Management; and Architect Laura Moya, Full Professor of Structures, attended a workshop for the presentation of “Applications of Domestic Wood in Construction,” which took place on July 23 in the Conference Room of the ANCAP Building. The event was organized by the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining and the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries. Architect Laura Moya, representing the university, presented a paper on “Structural Systems.”

July 27, 2009On July 31, the launch of the university’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) took place at the ORT Centro Auditorium. The presentation was given by Enrique Topolansky, CIE Coordinator, who also highlighted the main achievements of the University-Business Liaison Office (Vincular), a project funded by the Technological Development Program (PDT) in December 2006.

July 23, 2009The business plan for the web design agency "PRO Internacional," submitted by Magdalena Rodríguez, a graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, and Rosario Monteverde, a graduate with a degree in Systems Engineering, was selected as one of the 15 finalists in the 2009 Cartier Women's Initiative Awards competition.

July 23, 2009On July 29, the first annual graduation ceremony was held at the Solís Theater. A total of 139 graduates from all faculties participated. Speakers included the President of ORT Uruguay, Mr. Rafael Rosenberg; the Rector, Dr. Jorge Grünberg; and graduates Fabián Wajner from the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences, Natalia Lemos from the Faculty of Architecture, Juan Frick from the Faculty of Communication and Design, and Nicole Klein from the Faculty of Engineering. The deans presented awards for academic excellence.

July 6, 2009From July 6 to 20, the exhibition “Imaginary Landscapes” was on display in the central hall of the School of Architecture, featuring a selection of works created by first-semester architecture students. The works are part of the students’ individual projects. They included models, photomontages, photos of models, and the graphic design of the presentations.

July 6, 2009From July 9 to 20, an exhibition of the winning entries from the “Ephemeral Structures, Art in the Park” competition was on display in the central hall of the School of Architecture as part of the 2009 Design Seminar. The event was organized by the Project 1 course in the Architecture program. The winners were Dominique Iojes, Bruno Podestá, and Carolina Pou (1st prize); Camila Meschino and Silvana Modena (2nd prize); and Sofía Durán, Natalie Plada, and Mariana Salvarrey (3rd prize).
