April 11, 2012Being recognized by Google is an achievement in itself, a great reward for the effort that often took many years. This is the case with the Económica and Chau Philomene One typefaces, which have been part of Google Web Fonts since March 2012, making them the first fonts created in Uruguay to be published on that site. Their creator is Vicente Lamónaca, a 35-year-old professor and graduate of the Bachelor’s program in Graphic Design.

April 9, 2012For the past year, Uruguayan journalist Florencia Melgar has been running Latinhub, a news portal for Australia’s Spanish-speaking community, which numbers about 300,000 people. Before Latinhub existed, there was no website that brought together the news and information immigrants needed in their native language. In addition to being a news portal, “it serves as a very useful first point of contact for newcomers to Australia.”
