• Paper presented at the “3rd Conference on Tourism and Development: Cultural Tourism—Perspectives and Challenges”

  The article “Heritage, Cultural Tourism, and Education: An Innovative Training Experience,” written by university faculty members, was presented at the “3rd Conference on Tourism and Development: Cultural Tourism—Perspectives and Challenges.” The event, which took place on November 4 and 5, 2013, in La Plata, Argentina, was organized by the School of Economic Sciences at the National University of La Plata.
• Article accepted for publication in Current Issues in Tourism

  The article “Exploring cruise ship passenger spending patterns in two Uruguayan ports of call” was accepted for publication in Current Issues in Tourism on November 28, 2013. It was authored by Dr. Juan Gabriel Brida, Professor of Quantitative Methods for Finance at the School of Management and Social Sciences and Associate Professor of Economics at the Free University of Bolzano (Italy), Daniel Bukstein, and Emiliano Tealde, graduates of the Master’s in Economics program.
• Articles by faculty members were presented at the "3rd National Conference on Chemical Sciences"

  Three papers authored by faculty members and researchers in biotechnology were presented at the "3rd National Conference on Chemical Sciences" (ENAQUI 3.0), which took place from November 4 to 6, 2013, in Montevideo. It was organized by the Faculty of Chemistry and the Programme the Development of Basic Sciences (PEDEClBA) at the University of the Republic.

  Marcos Cristal, M.A., is a professor in the Corporate Politics Department at ESADE Business School and a visiting professor in Programme Management Development (PMD) at Universidad ORT Uruguay; he has developed business simulation software.

  The article “Proposal for an Environmental Note in Financial Statements” by Dr. Norma Pontet, Professor of Management Accounting in the School of Administration and Social Sciences; María Sol Berenguer, professor of Management Accounting; Julio Álvaro Rodríguez, CPA, professor of Assets and Liabilities: Recognition and Measurement 2; and Valentín Sorhuet, CPA, professor of Taxation and Accounting Theory, was accepted in November 2013 for presentation at the “30th Inter-American Accounting Conference.”
• Student projects selected for “Salão Design Movelsul Brasil 2014”

  The “AVA” light fixture by Diego Chiola, a student in the Bachelor of Industrial Design program, was selected in November 2013 for the second stage of the “Salão Design Movelsul Brasil 2014,” a Latin American product design competition, in the “Student Division – Lighting Category.” Meanwhile, the “FRANS” bench by Andrés Espina and Nicolás Noblia, undergraduate students, was selected in the “Student Division – Outdoor Furniture Category.”
• Publication of the Annals of Architectural Research

  In November 2013, the Department of History and Theory of Architecture at the School of Architecture published the second issue of *Annals of Architectural Research*.
• Panel Discussion: "Women and ICTs"

  On November 26, 2013, the panel discussion “Women and ICTs” took place at ORT Centro. The event was held as part of “Future Day,” an initiative by La Diaria that has been bringing together individuals and institutions to reflect on the future for the past three years. This year, the focus was on education and work. In this panel, organized by the CIE (Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship) and the Graduate Coordination Office of the School of Engineering, the speakers analyzed myths, truths, and stereotypes about women and ICTs.

  Associate Professor Víctor Paulós, Academic Secretary of the School of Technology at the Faculty of Engineering, gave a presentation titled "MOOCs: An Educational Innovation?" to members of the Rotary Club (Aguada). The event took place on November 21, 2013, at the NH Columbia Hotel.
• Book Launch: “Living in Uruguay”

  On November 28, 2013, the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences hosted the presentation of the book “Living in Uruguay. Socioeconomic Levels in Pictures,” by Alain Mizrahi, a professor of Market Research at the faculty, and Alejandra Solares, with photographs by Florencia López. The event was organized by the Radar group and the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences. Speakers included Héctor Bajac, Ph.D., Dr. Verónica Filardo, and Álvaro Moré.
• Framework Cooperation Agreement with the Alberto Boerger Foundation for Agricultural Studies

  Twelve students and two faculty members from the School of Architecture at Universidad Continental in Huancayo, Peru, visited the School of Architecture from November 4 to 8, 2013, as part of an agreement between the two institutions to carry out joint academic activities. • Ignacio Oliveri was named a Social Innovator in Argentina and Uruguay by MIT Technology Review

  Ignacio Oliveri, a graduate of the Bachelor’s program in Information Systems at Universidad ORT Uruguay, was named a Social Innovator of the Río de la Plata by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) through its publication MIT Technology Review. He had previously been selected as one of the top 10 entrepreneurs under 35 in Argentina and Uruguay. The awards ceremony for the regional competition took place on November 20, 2013, in Buenos Aires. Mr. Oliveri is the founder of ViperMed, a virtual platform that enables remote medical treatment. This venture received support from the CIE (Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship).
