    The “Viewnity” project, developed by Nicolás Bianchi, a student in the Web Application Analyst and Programmer program; Felipe Coirolo and Nicolás Saúl, students in the Systems Engineering program; and Diego Ventura, a student in the Bachelor’s program in International Studies at Universidad ORT Uruguay, along with Natalia Campos, a student in Industrial Design; Magdalena López, a Chemical Engineering student, and Sylvia Schenck, a Food Engineering student at the University of the Republic, and Federico Masini, owner of the audiovisual production company “Popup!FX,” won first prize in the local “24 Hours of Innovation” competition, which took place on May 23 and 24, 2012, at the Telecommunications Tower. The project, which aims to be the first voice-based mobile app designed to assist people with visual impairments, also won the special “International America’s Award.” Sixteen teams participated in the local competition.

    On May 31, 2012, the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences hosted the conference “Social, Local, and Mobile: The New Frontier of the Point of Sale,” presented by Claudio Darin, a professor in the MBA and Executive Programs at the Business School of the University of Palermo (Argentina). The speaker, who heads the consulting firm Marketdynamo – Business Strategy and Marketing, analyzed the changes brought about by the widespread adoption of smartphones, the potential of tablets, and applications that utilize location-based services and the socialization of consumption through social media. The conference was organized by the faculty’s Marketing Department.

    On May 24, 2012, the Faculty of Architecture hosted a lecture titled “Wood as a Structural Material for Construction: Argentine Standards and Regulations for Wood Structures,” presented by Alfredo Aníbal Guillaumet, Ph.D., a full professor in the Structural Engineering Department of the Civil Engineering program at the National Technological University (UTN) in Argentina.

    The article "Rapid Growth and Rapid Internationalization of Smaller Enterprises from Canada," by Dr. Christian Keen, Academic Coordinator of Finance at the School of Management and Social Sciences, and Hamid Etemad, Professor at McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management , was published in volume 50 (issue 4) of the journal *Management Decision*, published by Emerald.

    On May 16, 2012, the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences hosted a lecture titled “The Challenges Facing the European Union,” delivered by Ambassador Thomas Antoine, who has served as Belgium’s Ambassador to Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay since February 2011. The event was organized by the faculty’s Department of International Studies.

    On May 14, 2012, the lecture “Success Based on Values” was held in the Auditorium of Antel’s Telecommunications Tower. The speaker was Dr. Mary C. Gentile, Director of “Giving Voice to Value,” an academic initiative launched by the Aspen Institute and the Yale School of Management. The event was organized by the Christian Association of Business Executives (ACDE), the Uruguay-United States Chamber of Commerce, and the School of Administration and Social Sciences. Dr. Gentile also met with faculty members on May 14, 2012.

    On May 24, 2012, the “Reciclá – Redesigning Vintage Clothing” redesign exhibition was presented at the headquarters of the Israeli Community of Uruguay. This exhibition showcased the work created by students in the Bachelor of Fashion Design program during the academic activity “Integrative Project – ReCreación 12” for Meilí, a community clothing bank run by volunteers who work with more than 300 families and distribute donations to soup kitchens, schools, NGOs, and people in emergency situations.

    On May 7, 2012, the presentation “ORT Digital Program: Short Film Screening” took place at the AlfaBeta Cinema, led by Álvaro Buela, Ph.D., Professor of Film Production in the School of Communication and Design. The short films screened were “Family Day,” directed and written by David Blankleider, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Program in Audiovisual Communication, and “Extracorpus,” directed and written by Bernardo Antonaccio, a student in the same program. The program was organized by the Department of Film Production at the faculty with the support of Musitelli, Santander Universities, and HTV-3.

    The Academic Coordination Office for Communication at the School of Communication and Design, together with the Catholic University of Uruguay and the University of Montevideo, supported the 11th edition of the “Latin American Congress of Communication Researchers,” which took place from May 9 to 11, 2012. It was organized by the Latin American Association of Communication Researchers (ALAIC) and the Bachelor’s Program in Communication Sciences at the University of the Republic.
