    In July, Alvaro Cristiani, Academic Coordinator of Human Resources at the School of Management and Social Sciences, led two seminars on compensation systems at the University of Valencia and the University of Barcelona, aimed at students in the Erasmus Mundus Master’s program in Organizational and Human Resources Psychology.

    Dr. Gabriel Oddone, a professor of Economic Policy in the School of Management and Social Sciences, gave a lecture titled “Uruguay’s Economy in 2009: Between External Threats and the Long Election Cycle” as part of the lecture series “Global Economic Uncertainty and Its Impact on the Consumer Market.”

    Journalist Franklin Morales, an instructor in the Sports Journalism Technician program, attended the international seminar “The Role of the State in Addressing Violence and Discrimination at Sporting Events” on behalf of the School of Communication and Design. The event was held in La Plata on July 3 and 4 and was organized by the National University of La Plata.

    On July 28, the lecture "The cobbler’s children have no shoes" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. It was presented by advertising executive and designer Isaías González, Managing Director of Aquelarre Publicidad in Colombia. The event was organized by the Academic Coordination Office for Advertising.

    On July 24, the fashion show "Fashion Makes a Statement" took place at Punta Carretas Shopping, presented by students in the Fashion Event Design and Production course (7th semester) of the Bachelor of Fashion Design program, who showcased their fall-winter 2008–2009 clothing collections.

    On July 31, the lecture "Electronic Technology Applied to Security" was held at the Centro Auditorium, presented by Prof. Sebastián Miller, a professor in the Digital Systems and Systems Architecture departments of the School of Engineering. The event was organized by the School of Technology.

    On July 2, Yaugurú Publishing presented the visual poetry box set “Librobjeto” at Espacio Guambia. The work was created by Prof. Gustavo Wojciechowski, Associate Professor of Editorial and Advertising Design at the School of Communication and Design. Joining the author were musicians Fernando Goicoechea and Nicolás Mora, visual artist Marcos Ibarra, and writer Inés Trabal.

    The dean of the School of Communication and Design, Eduardo Hipogrosso, delivered a lecture titled “Professional Training in Animation: Where Is It Headed?” at the “Third Latin American Design Conference 2008,” organized by the School of Design and Communication at the University of Palermo in Buenos Aires.

    On July 24 and 25, the first annual meeting of ASIBEI (Ibero-American Association of Engineering Education Institutions) took place in Montevideo, organized by the Schools of Engineering at the University of the Republic and ORT University. On the 24th, the plenary session and the Executive Committee meeting were held at the Sheraton Hotel, and on the 25th, an academic conference took place at the campuses of both faculties.

    Dr. Denise Vaillant, Professor of Educational Policy in the School of Management and Social Sciences, was selected by the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) to serve on UNESCO’s Council of Consultant Fellows.

    Néstor Gandelman, B.A., Academic Coordinator of Economics at the School of Management and Social Sciences, and Julio de Brun, B.A., Julio de Brun, Professor of Economics at the University of Uruguay, along with Drs. Herman Kamil and Arturo Porzecanski, contributed the chapter “The fixed income market in Uruguay” to the book “Bond markets in Latin America on the verge of a big bang” by authors Eduardo Borensztein, Kevin Cowan, Barry Eichengreen, and Ugo Panizza. The book was published in Cambridge by MIT Press.

    Isidoro Hodara, Ph.D., Professor of International Trade in the School of Business Administration and Social Sciences, contributed the chapter "The Evolution of Economics Studies in Uruguay: Mobility" to the book *The Bologna Process and Mercosur in Education: The Teaching of Economics*, edited by Luis Caramés and published in Santiago de Compostela.
