    Álvaro Sánchez, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Telecommunications in the School of Engineering, served as a peer reviewer for the Electronic Engineering program at the National University of the South (Bahía Blanca, Argentina) from June 25 to 28, 2012. He was appointed by CONEAU (National Commission for University Evaluation and Accreditation) of Argentina’s Ministry of Culture and Education.

    The article “Inter-Generational Effects of Titling Programs: Physical vs. Human Capital” by Dr. Néstor Gandelman, Academic Coordinator of Economics at the School of Management and Social Sciences, won first prize in the Global Development Medals Competition, in the thematic area “The Enabling Environment – Housing, Transportation, and Infrastructure.” He shared first place with Rivayani Darmawan, M.Sc., a researcher at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (Germany). The final round took place at the “13th Annual Global Development Conference,” held June 16–18 in Budapest, Hungary.

    Dr. Inés Kereki, Professor of Programming in the School of Engineering; Guillermo Langwagen, B.S., Academic Coordinator of the Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering programs; Gastón Mousqués, Professor of Software Engineering, and Dr. Álvaro Tasistro, Professor of Computer Science, participated on behalf of the faculty in the “Seminar on Innovation in Effective Teaching,” which took place from June 18 to 22, 2012, at Harvard University (United States). The expenses were funded by ANII (National Agency for Research and Innovation), Indunor Uruguay, and Banco Itaú. On June 13, 2012, a reception was held at the Alliance Française to introduce and honor the selected scholarship recipients.
