July 31, 2016Out of a total of 3,600 applicants from around the world, the essay “From Lemkin to Kurdi: an essay on global citizenship” by Federico Wynter, a graduate of the Bachelor’s program in International Studies, was one of the winners of the United Nations (UN) Many Languages One World contest. In his essay, he was asked to reflect on the concept of global citizenship. This achievement allowed Wynter to attend the Global Youth Forum at Hofstra University in New York from July 25 to 31, 2016.

July 29, 2016The GPSGAY app, created by Magdalena Rodríguez, a graduate of the Bachelor’s program in Graphic Design, and Rosario Monteverde, a graduate of the Systems Engineering program, won first place on July 14, 2016, in the Startup Nation competition for Women Entrepreneurs organized by the Israeli Embassy and Endeavor. The winners will participate in the DLD Tel Aviv Innovation Festival 2016 in Israel this September.

July 29, 2016María Belén Hernández, a student in the Bachelor of Economics program, was selected in July 2016 by the Botín Foundation to represent Uruguay in the Program for Strengthening the Civil Service in Latin America. The foundation selected 32 Ibero-American university students with high personal and academic potential and a commitment to public service.

July 25, 2016In July 2016, the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) awarded a three-year doctoral fellowship to Prof. Sonali Correa, a research assistant at the Biotechnology Laboratory of the School of Engineering. Prof. Correa is pursuing her doctoral studies as part of the Pedeciba Chemistry program.
