    For the fifth consecutive year, Universidad ORT Uruguay ranked among the top 500 universities in the world and among the top 14 in Latin America in the ranking published on October 16 by Times Higher Education (THE) in London.

    Pro Internacional, a web design firm founded by Magdalena Rodríguez, a graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, and Rosario Monteverde, a graduate with a degree in Systems Engineering, won the Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards. The awards ceremony took place during the international forum The Women's Forum for the Economy and Society, held from October 15 to 17 in Deauville, France. The organization presented five awards, one per region (Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America). This is the first time a Uruguayan company has participated in this event.

    María Verónica Palma, a telecommunications engineering student, was one of two students selected by the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) to represent Uruguay at "ITU Telecom World 2009," which took place in Geneva, Switzerland, from October 5 to 9.

    The project submitted by Architect Alejandro Baptista Pereyra, Professor of Architectural Design at the School of Architecture, together with Architect Alejandro Baptista Acerenza and Architect Horacio Flora, Full Professors of Design at the Faculty, won the competition organized by the Banco de la República (BROU) for the expansion of its headquarters, among 67 participating teams. The complex will cover approximately 30,000 square meters. On Monday, October 5, at the School of Architecture, the three authors of the project gave a presentation on the topic titled “Conference on the Winning Project of the Public Competition for Architectural Preliminary Designs for the Banco de la República Oriental del Uruguay.”
