Nov. 29, 2013The “AVA” light fixture by Diego Chiola, a student in the Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design program, was selected in November 2013 for the second stage of “Salão Design Movelsul Brasil 2014,” a Latin American product design competition, in the “Student Division – Lighting Category.” Meanwhile, the “FRANS” bench by Andrés Espina and Nicolás Noblia, students in the bachelor’s program, was chosen in the “Student Division – Outdoor Furniture Category.”

Nov. 21, 2013Ignacio Oliveri, a graduate of the Bachelor’s program in Systems at Universidad ORT Uruguay, was named a Social Innovator of the Río de la Plata by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) through its publication MIT Technology Review. He had previously been selected as one of the top 10 entrepreneurs under 35 in Argentina and Uruguay. The award ceremony for the regional competition took place on November 20, 2013, in Buenos Aires. Mr. Oliveri is the founder of ViperMed, a virtual platform that enables remote medical treatment. This venture received support from the CIE (Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship).

Nov. 21, 2013The top two teams from the “13th ORT Programming Contest 2013,” held on September 24, 2013, at the School of Engineering, participated in the Regional Finals of the “ACM International Programming Contest,” which took place from November 8 to 10, 2013, in Buenos Aires.

Nov. 20, 2013The paper “Competitiveness in Uruguayan Companies: Factors Ranging from the Exchange Rate to the Structure of Government Agencies” by Juan José Riva, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Program in International Studies and a member of the International Trade Department at the School of Business and Social Sciences, won first prize from the National Academy of Economics. The award was announced on the occasion of the academy’s 56th anniversary, which took place on November 7, 2013, in the foyer of the National Chamber of Commerce.

Nov. 4, 2013The article “Training in Management Skills: A Study on the Self-Perception of Undergraduate Students” by Carolina García, CPA, Associate Academic Coordinator of the Public Accounting Program and Professor of General Management and the Ethics and Social Responsibility Workshop at the School of Management and Social Sciences; Dinorah Margounato, B.A., a marketing professor at the school; and Diego Coppa, Consultant at Datalogic Software, and Brian Dodel, a student in the Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Administration program, received a special mention in the “National Papers” category at the “9th Congress of Accounting Educators.” The event, organized by the Inter-American Accounting Association and the Uruguayan Association of Accountants, Economists, and Administrators, took place on November 29 and 30, 2013, in Punta del Este.

Nov. 4, 2013Paganza, a startup supported by the CIE (Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship), won first prize at AppCircus, a local app competition. The awards ceremony took place on November 27, 2013, in Lindolfo. As a result of this recognition, it will compete globally against AppCircus winners from other cities. A global jury will select the startups to be presented at the Mobile Premier Awards (a global app event), which will take place in 2014 in Barcelona.

Nov. 1, 2013The short film *Family Day*, directed by David Blankleider, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication, won the “Most Innovative for Fiction” category at the 2013 Gold Panda Awards, held as part of the 12th edition of China’s “Sichuan TV Festival , ” organized by the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television and the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government. The awards ceremony took place on November 7, 2013, in Beijing.
