Organized by the Universidad ORT Uruguay and Uruguay Gamer, with support from Sinergia Cowork, the sixth edition of the Global Game Jam (GGJ) took place in Uruguay from Friday, January 20, to Sunday, January 22. It is the world’s most important video game event.
In this 6th edition, our country brought together 83 participants who worked on 14 projects. Of particular note was the significant presence of musicians; at least a quarter of the games developed incorporated original music and instrumental elements integrated into the gameplay.
Artists, programmers, designers, writers, and producers took on the challenge of creating games inspired by the international theme “waves.”
Globally, the event drew 36,000 gamers to 702 venues across 92 countries, where more than 7,000 games were played over the weekend.
The Global Game Jam is an international gathering of enthusiasts who develop video games over a continuous 48-hour period. Its focus is on the collaborative creation of original games, promoting creativity and the exchange of experiences and ideas among participants.
In addition, the activity allows participants to explore the video game development process from various perspectives, such as programming, interactive design, storytelling, and artistic expression.
